Apparently, a middleweight title clash pitting the reigning and defending 185-pound kingpin Anderson Silvaagainst former teammate Vitor Belfort has become official, as both fighters stepped on the scales at 185-pounds on the nose.
We take a look at Belfort’s knock outs of Tra Telligman, Marvin Eastman and Wanderlei Silva. Belfort trainer Ron Frazier says Silva is going to see something he’s never seen in the cage before: Someone who has better hands and someone who is as fast, if not faster, as he is.
Aside from the main bout, we are also about to witness with the two critical light-heavyweight bouts on the card. First, we will about to witness a showdown between former champions Forrest Griffin as he meet face to face Rich Franklin. And secondly, the battle between two of the UFC’s biggest rising starts, Jon Jones and Ryan Bader is about to happen right after the first bout.
Furthermore, now it’s back to Silva and a look at his UFC 117 fight with Chael Sonnen. For good measure, the UFC has decided to throw in some of Sonnen’s best trash-talking clips. Moreso, Soares says Silva went into that fight with the goal of submitting Sonnen, because when have you ever seen Silva go into a fight wearing a gi?
Perhaps the most interesting happenings of the weigh-ins was the headliner, where Brazilians Anderson Silva and Vitor Belfort squared off in a heated stare down. “The Spider” made light of Vitor’s comments heading into the championship contest, wearing a white mask mocking Belfort’s comments of the previously figurative additive to which he attributes to the facade the Silva puts on pre-fight. The two went nose-to-nose and were held back by UFC execs before matters could escalate.
